A resolution was passed during last night’s Lima City Council meeting- proclaiming every July 17th from here on- as Phyllis Diller Day in
Council President John Nixon talked about how Diller was an example that people can succeed from small-town beginnings.
Diller passed away last year- and is credited for paving the way for female comedians across the world.
3rd ward Council member Jesse Lowe attempted a motion to have the issue be reviewed by the Safety Services Committee- but the motion did not receive a majority of votes.
There were two councilors who were absent.
Lowe asked for a written explanation from the Fire Department by the next council meeting in two weeks.
A heated exchange also took place between 6th Ward Councilor Derry Glenn and President John Nixon.
